Fire Blanket

A fire blanket is a safety device designed to extinguish small fires, particularly those that involve clothing, cooking, or other flammable materials. It consists of a sheet made from fire-resistant material, usually fiberglass or a similar heat-resistant fabric. Fire blankets are typically stored in a compact, easy-to-access container and can be used by pulling the blanket out and smothering the fire by placing the blanket over it, cutting off the oxygen supply and stopping the fire from spreading.

They are commonly used in kitchens, homes, and workplaces, as well as in outdoor or camping settings, for tackling small fires before they become dangerous. Fire blankets are especially useful for fires on people (e.g., clothing catching fire) or small grease fires that can’t be put out with water.

Advantages of Fire Blankets:
1.Easy to use and require no maintenance.
2.Reusable (if not damaged after use).
3.Environmentally friendly, as they do not release harmful chemicals.
4.Compact and portable, making them ideal for quick response.

When to use a fire blanket?

A fire blanket is ideal for extinguishing cooking fat fires and can be used to wrap around people if their clothes catch on fire.

Where to store a fire blanket?

To be useful, a fire blanket should be easily and quickly available. Fire blankets are often installed in kitchen areas where small cooking fires may occur. Do not place them near the stove as a stove top fire may stop you getting to it. Instead, place the fire blanket near the door way to the kitchen. This will mean you can still leave if the fire escalates.
